Flip & Grip - emergency housing - Thesis 2008

A foldable structure developed with the base of the paragraph 25:1 in the Universal Declaration of Human rights by the UN.
- Each human is entitled of a standard living adequate.

You may agree or not in this statement but just by the usage of a word such as STANDARD in a universal context, simply just allows the problem to be unsolved. The thesis turned out to become an investigation of how to re-frase this statement and then to solve that problem to something that might actually by universal. The starting point from here was the question of what a home is.

Correction of paragraph 1:25
- Each human being is entitled of a protecting shield.

As the frase "shield refers to what is regarded as a home, the process included a three dimensional modular research of "shields" from nature, such as turtle, armadillo, caterpillar, hedgehogs, honeycombs, ant nests etc. The result is a combination of the three strongest and most compatible geometries: turtle, honeycomb and hedgehog.

Result: A foldable flat pack structure made by recycled car carpets.
